Pediatric Dental Services: Breaking Things Down
A pediatric dentist is a type of dentist who has had specialty training on how to treat children, and how a child’s mouth and teeth develop. A pediatric dentist also has unique training dedicated to helping children feel comfortable during an office visit, including behavioral guidance techniques.
When Should My Child First Visit a Pediatric Dentist?
The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends that any child see a pediatric dentist for the first time either by the age of one or within six months after their first tooth develops.
What Should I Expect at My Child’s First Examination?
During your child’s first examination, your pediatric dental professional will give you a wide array of information on things like:
- Finger-sucking habits
- Teething
- Mouth cleaning best practices
- Infant feeding best practices
- Baby bottle tooth decay and more

Your Child’s Comfort is Our #1 Concern
The team at Montgomery, Prattville & Pike Road Pediatric Dentistry & Family Orthodontics is highly trained to provide only the highest level of care to every patient who walks through the door.
This means that your child’s comfort and health will always come first, so if there is a step that we can take to help create the best experience possible, rest assured it’s one we’re willing to take.
All told, our passionate team of pediatric dentists have decades of combined experience between them. They’re all singularly devoted to helping your children maintain healthy mouths for years to come. From the moment we opened our doors until now, our team’s philosophy has remained the same – we want kids to grow up WANTING to go to the dentist. Our pediatric dentists are highly trained, not only in dental practice but also in working to create a welcoming and fun atmosphere to build relationships with each child.
We also have many years of successful experience in helping young children feel safe and comfortable at the dentist’s office, complete with hygienists who work hard to make each child feel as comfortable as possible.
This includes the use of things like:
Nitrous oxide, which is commonly referred to as “laughing gas” by both those inside of the industry and out. This is a safe and effective agent that is inhaled through a small mask that fits over your child’s nose, helping them relax and reduce any feelings of anxiety. The effects of nitrous oxide are gone by the time your child leaves the chair.
Local anesthesia, otherwise known as “sleepy juice” in our office, is used when necessary during dental procedures. We use a particular type of flavored, numbing jelly to help administer the anesthesia to provide a comfortable experience for your child.
When working with children, we take care to explain each part of the process so that they feel comfortable in our care.
In addition to pediatric dentistry services, we proudly act as a full-service hospital dentistry provider. For our younger patients who may not be able to cooperate for work in the office or for those who have extensive work, it can be done under general anesthesia at the hospital. This is an excellent option for getting all of the work done at once.
If your family ever has an emergency and needs to consult with a dental professional after our office closes, our on-call service provides after-hours treatment when needed.
If you’d like to find out more information about our pediatric dentistry services, or if you have any additional questions you’d like to discuss with someone in a bit more detail, please don’t delay – contact us today.
Your First FUN Visit
For our youngest patients, we can accommodate requests for parents to attend the appointment with a lap exam. Our goal is to build trust over the relationship and help your child gain the confidence to handle their exam on their own.
Our patients of all ages enjoy visiting our unique offices. You can take a selfie with a shark, stand cheek-to-cheek with a hippo, or gaze at our fish and turtle tanks! Come Live Life Smiling with us!
