What Is Invisalign?

To get a better understanding of exactly what Invisalign is, it’s important to compare it to a system that most people are probably familiar with – traditional braces.

When a patient undergoes treatment with traditional braces, a series of small metal brackets are attached to each one of their teeth. Then, those brackets are connected together via metal wires – one for the top row and one for the bottom. An orthodontist will periodically adjust the strength of those wires, which is how the teeth shift into their desired position over a series of many months.

Invisalign lets you arrive at the exact same end result, but in a far different way. Here, 3D images and scans are actually used to create a series of clear plastic trays that are essentially molded precisely to fit your teeth. Every few weeks, you swap out one set of aligners for the next in the sequence and this is what moves your teeth into the appropriate position over the course of your treatment.

Benefits of Invisalign

There are a wide array of different benefits that you can only get with Invisalign treatment, but perhaps the most important of those is that it’s a far more discreet option than something like traditional braces.

With traditional braces, the metal brackets and wires aren’t just uncomfortable – they’re also highly noticeable to those around you. Invisalign is far more comfortable and is very discreet – to the point where most people likely won’t even realize you’re going through treatment unless you make that information available.

Likewise, with Invisalign there are virtually no dietary restrictions to speak of – which is absolutely not the case with traditional braces. Before every meal, just pop your aligners out of your mouth and eat whatever you want. Before you put them back in again, just be sure to brush and floss your teeth to remove any food particles or other obstructions.

How Much Does Invisalign Cost?

The answer to this question is a difficult one to provide, as the total amount of money you’ll be expected to pay will obviously vary depending on factors like the length of your treatment.

With that in mind, it’s important to note that Invisalign usually works out to be just about the same amount as traditional braces for most people – all for a solution that is far more comfortable and that is every bit as effective.

Why Get Invisalign as an Adult?

There truly is no “bad time” in your life to get Invisalign, as the types of problems that it’s designed to correct can manifest themselves at any age. You may have had a perfect smile growing up and, over time, your teeth suddenly started to shift in ways that you couldn’t have predicted. Or maybe you developed an underbite or an overbite.

Regardless – Invisalign is a great way to have the smile you always wanted, all in the easiest and most cost effective way possible.

How Many Hours a Day Do I Need to Wear Invisalign?

For the absolute best results, you’ll want to wear your Invisalign aligners for as long as you can each day. At a bare minimum, you should be wearing them for 22 hours and if you can do so for longer, that’s terrific. Really, the only times you should be taking them out of your mouth at all are if you’re about to eat or drink something that isn’t water, or if you’re brushing and cleaning them at night.
